Guest Interview—Willa Blair

Welcome to my friend I met while living in Texas. Tell us a bit about you and your background

A life-long student and reader, I’ve been a stained glass artist and instructor, a foreign language teacher, a computer scientist, an analyst, a manager and an executive. I’ve visited five continents and can get by in several languages. Scouting new settings for books is lots of fun, and being an author is the best job I’ve ever had.

What’s the logline that describes your writing?

“Romance and Adventure”. I add “…in the Highlands of Scotland” for my Scottish books!

What are your hobbies away from the computer?

I’m sorry, I don’t understand. What does “away from the computer” mean? ;^)

Do you start a new story with the plot or characters first?

Plot, always the plot. I get to know the characters as I write.

Is your writing style planned or freestyle?

Both. I wrestle with an outline and bare-bones synopsis to get the flow of the plot figured out. Then the characters step in and do all they can to wreck the plan.

What is the starting point for research—story concept or when you get stuck while writing?

Again, both. I may need to do a lot of historical research if I’m starting in a new time period, then fact-check or look for amplifying detail later.

Have you traveled to any locations that appear in your books?

Yes – for my Scottish books—historical and contemporary—I’ve traveled through a good deal of central Scotland and the Highlands, but have plenty left to see and do! I’ve also been to Hawaii several times which came in handy for Sweetie Pie, and just went on my first cruise. Now I have 5 more countries to use as settings if my imagination decides to go there.

Can you share a tip about what you do when you get stuck in creating a story?

Go away from it for a few days—or weeks—and work on something else.

What was your biggest surprise in the editing/revision process?

That much to my editor’s dismay, I’m enamored of commas.

Do you write in a genre other than the one of this release?

Yes. I also write Scottish historical romance.

What’s your dream vacation destination?

A summer in Scotland, a month each in Australia and New Zealand, a summer in Europe, shall I go on? I have lots of dreams.

“Are ye okay?” Ian felt Lara’s ribs expand under his hand as she breathed.

“I am now,” she murmured. “I could have sprained an ankle, or fallen and hit my head.”

“You needn’t worry,” he answered softly. “I’ve got you.” Pressed against his hard length, right where he needed her. Though he knew holding her was a mistake, he couldn’t let her go.

Her face flushed. “You do at that. I…I…” She glanced at the ceiling, then returned her gaze to his. “Thank you…”

“You’re welcome. I don’t mind a bit,” Ian teased. Her body was firm, yet soft against his. She made no move to escape his embrace. He lowered his gaze to her mouth. Her lips were so close. So tempting.

Lara’s breath warmed his face. Her gaze met his, then dropped quickly to his mouth.

He was certain she meant to allow his kiss…and to kiss him back. He parted his lips, drinking in her scent, eager to taste her.

Something moved in the darkness below them, soundless, but stirring the cool air and whispering across his hands. The back of Ian’s neck prickled.

Lara stiffened and cocked her head, as if listening.

“Just a draft,” he murmured. Ian could have sworn it was only moving air, nothing more. He hoped. He’d grown up hearing tales about Cairn Dubh—and its ghost. If Cairn Dubh did have a ghost, this ancient space would be a fine place for it to haunt.

Guest Release Promotion—Four By Moonlight by Linda Nightingale

bymoonlight_1028

An anthology of love in the moonlight…in the paranormal universe.

“Gypsy Ribbons” – A moonlight ride on the moors and meeting a notorious highwayman will forever change Lady Virginia Darby’s life.

“Star Angel” – Lucy was stuck in a rut and in an Idaho potato patch. She’d seen him in the corner of her eye—a fleeting glimpse of beauty—now he stood before her in the flesh.

“The Night Before Doomsday” – All his brothers had succumbed to lust, but Azazel resisted temptation until the wrong woman came along.

“The Gate Keeper’s Cottage” – Newlywed Meggie Richelieu’s mysterious, phantom lover may be more than anyone, except the plantation housekeeper, suspects.

AboutStar Angel”

At its very basis, “Star Angel” is about soul mates coming together across a great distance for a universal purpose.  Soul mates, are we thinking of them in the wrong way?  There are three types of soul mates.

First, there is the romantic kind, and we’re not necessarily meant to be together forever, but these soul mates have powerful lessons to teach each other.  They help you navigate from point-to-point, insuring that you learn your lessons on the way.  They may not stay your life long

The second is the soul mate most people think of when you say the word.  They are the ones who allow you to be your true self, feeling comfortable with yourself as you may not have done for many years.

The third is the platonic kind, the friend you are really connected to, you tell all your secrets, but there is no romance involved.

Not just anyone can fulfill you like your soul mate can. Your soul mate is your heart’s other half and a life partner. Your soul mate makes you feel entirely whole, healed and intact. On the other hand, a life partner may be a wonderful supporter and long-time companion, but his/her ability to enrich your spirit may be limited.

Lucy discovers, but her unnamed hero has always known, that they are split-aparts. He is the other half of her soul. She is the missing half of his. In Florida, I had a friend who was very into new age, and she led me into an exploration of soul mates.

Why does everyone not have his/her soul mate, or split-apart?  Because we may give in to the innate fear of being alone and settle for a life partner relationship instead of waiting and hoping. Some relationships must last a certain time to complete a karmic chapter of life, while in others we’re meant to have children with our partner but not necessarily remain with them.

I’m quite certain that once I met my soul mate, but like Tory and Simon, the highwayman, in “Gypsy Ribbons,” it was too late.  He was already married as Tory was in the short story.

Do you believe in soul mates?

EXCERPT from “Star Angel”:

“I’ve seen you before.” In astonishment, Lucy stared at the most beautiful man she’d ever seen, not brave enough to blink or draw breath for fear he’d disappear. “A flash in the corner of my eye.”

Each time she saw him, she was left sad, lonely, and longing for more than a glimpse. Her throat tightened on unshed tears. She could only gaze at him in mute admiration…and the pain of yearning for something she could never have. With his long, pale hair and chiseled face, he looked an angel. Why in the world would an angel bother with Lucy Spears, stuck here in the middle of an Idaho potato patch, stuck in a rut?

“Are you an angel?” Her hand flew to her mouth, but the thought had escaped in words, no longer recapturable.

God, she didn’t want to scare him away. Lucy, that’s assuming angels can be frightened.

He didn’t answer, but looked at her as if he thought she might fade from sight. In the dark of the moon, before he appeared, the room had been pitch-black. A suffused glow, a faint aura of light, outlined him. His eyes were colorless. No, their faceted depths refracted a myriad of colors, like those crystal wine glasses at Macy’s, the ones she’d wanted for a wedding present and didn’t get. His skin had the translucent quality of fine porcelain.

“You’re so beautiful.” She tensed, hadn’t meant to say that either. If she didn’t curb her tongue, he’d vanish.

“As are you to my eyes, Lucretia.” He halted between each word, his voice raspy as if he were just learning to speak.

When he bowed like a hero in the novels she devoured along with bars of chocolate, silky hair brushed the floor. Lucy’s romantic heart skittered, and feelings she’d thought dead stirred.

He straightened, shook back his hair, a faint smile teasing his lips. Like he doesn’t really know how to smile. Smiling or not, his sensual mouth begged for kisses. Excitement shivered over her. A delicious throbbing awoke deep inside. Desire had been a stranger for so long, the sensations shocked her. She sat straighter in bed, tugging the covers to her waist. The damned old flannel gown would cover the rest. Oh to be wearing a sexy negligee. Yeah right.

The next instant, Lucy’s heart soared. She felt light as the wind rustling the tree outside her window. Her body resonated to the new tune her soul was singing. Wanting to see him and memorize every detail, she rose and walked past him to flip on the lights. She sensed his steady regard, but simply could not meet his eyes…yet. She turned. At the sight of him, her heart clenched in wonder. What would he think of the washed out tan walls and the old wedding ring quilt on the bed? She was uncomfortable about the dust on the furniture and regretted not cleaning on Saturday.

Irresistibly drawn to him, Lucy slowly approached the stranger who seemed more like a friend. A foot away, she ran out of courage and coasted to a halt, took a deep breath, and gazed into his crystal eyes. At five-six, she was a head shorter than her mysterious visitor.

She didn’t see him move, but his long fingers cupped her chin. Only that small caress and she tingled as if he’d embraced her. His voice no longer hesitant, he whispered four strange words, as it should be, in her thoughts. Shocked and wary, her gaze darted to his crystalline eyes. Could he read her thoughts? That would be terrible. All of her feelings were tangled around sex and this magnificent stranger. She’d die of embarrassment. His fingers on her skin were warm, the touch feather soft. Tremors of anticipation rippled over her. His odd, but beautiful gaze shifted to her lips. She tensed, hoping for more…much more.

Special Promotion—Hello Again by Susanne Matthews

As an author, I’m always looking for ways to stretch my wings. Last year, Amazon developed the Kindle Scout Program, which is reader-powered publishing for new, never-before-published books. Readers determine the worth of a book for publication based on four criteria: the author’s previous work since a Q&A and social links for the author in question are included, a short blurb for the book itself with a kitchy tag line, the first 5,000 words in the story and the cover. Amazon promotes the book in the Scout program as well as on Amazon and Goodreads, but the author has the responsibility to promote the campaign, too. To thank the readers, Kindle Press provides an early, free e-copy to those who nominate a book that receives a publishing contract. For readers, it’s a win-win situation. For authors, it’s a chance to get published and maybe win a few new followers in the process.

Hello Again began its campaign on April 2. The campaign runs for 30 days. At the end of that period, the author learns whether or not a contract will be issued. If the answer is yes, then Kindle Press provides editors just like any other traditional publisher does.

As a bonus, here’s an additional excerpt that follows shortly after what is available on the Kindle Scout page.

The letter Mike had left for her, the one he’d written before he’d been deployed, sat on the coffee table, now covered with watermarks from the glasses littering its wooden surface. She reached over and picked up the sheet of paper. His instructions were specific, but she’d never be able to follow through with his requests. It wasn’t fair of him to expect her to.

“Damn you, Mike for dying, for leaving me this way. You didn’t have the right,” she said aloud, her voice echoing in the empty room. Drawn to the page, she read the words once more although she didn’t need to. Each one was engraved on a piece of her shattered heart.

Charley,

If you’re reading this, it’s because I let you down. I didn’t come back to you the way I promised, and I’ll always regret not being able to look into those baby blues of yours, and say goodbye. I never thought it would come to this, that we’d have so little time together. I wanted to take care of you, make you happy, and spend the rest of my days telling you how thankful I am that you are part of my life. We knew this might happen, and it was a choice we made when I enlisted and you married me, but saying goodbye like this is a lot harder than I ever thought it would be.

You’re the light of my life. I imagine our children running around the house, around that garage we were going to open—a boy who’d resemble me, a little girl who’d look just like her mama. We’d grow old together doing the things we loved, checking off each item on that bucket list we made before we were married.

I still want you to do those things, babe, even if I can’t be there to do them with you. There isn’t a lot of insurance money—I always meant to get more, but there was always something else that needed to be done, and since I expected to be there, earning it side by side, I figured fifty grand was enough.

There were so many things I wanted to show you, places I wanted to take you, but you’ll have to find someone else to do those things with now. That’s right. Once I’m gone, you need to move on.

I can hear you saying no, see you shaking your head, but you need to listen to me. I know you’re still mourning your father, but you have to let me go, let both of us go, and the best way to do it is to get rid of the things chaining you to the past—like that old car you baby all the time. You need something safe and reliable. You may be the best damn mechanic in the world, but eventually, a car needs to be scrapped. As far as I go, I’ve left instructions with Phil to cremate my body as quickly as he can after my death. I know you’ll want to see me, but babe, I want you to remember me the way I was when I was with you. Scatter my ashes on the wind. Don’t keep me cooped up in a fancy vase or box like my mother kept my dad. Once that’s done, I need you to open your heart and find a good man, a decent man who’ll love you and make you happy. I’d find one for you, if I could, but there are some things you’ll have to do for yourself.

I don’t know what there is after death, and religion wasn’t part of my life growing up, but when I think of moving on like this, I’m reminded of the stories my grandfather told. He was fascinated by his First Nations’ ancestor, even if he couldn’t claim status. The Sioux believed that the living and the dead lived together, even if only the shamans could see those who’d died. If that’s true, I’ll never leave you. I’ll watch out for you in any way I can. You won’t see me, hear me, or feel me, but I’ll be there waiting for the day when I can say hello again.

Right now, I can picture you standing there, tears running down your cheeks, and that’s the last thing I want. I know how stubborn you can be, but Charley, this is important for both of us, so please, mourn a little like I know you need to, but then move on.

Live, love, laugh, darling. Enjoy life the way you were meant to. I’ll always love you, now and forever,

Mike.

She swiped at the tears that crept down her cheeks.

“You’re wrong, Mike. I’ll never be happy again. The only way there’ll ever be a man in my life, is if you find a way to come back to me, because I’m not going looking for one. So ‘Rescues Wolf Pup and Gets into Trouble,’ if I can’t have you here and now, I’ll wait until we can be together, but don’t make me wait too long.”

Guest Interview with Trevann Rogers

Do you start a new story with the plot or characters first?

Interesting question. I’ve never thought about my process before, but as I reflect on my writing process (such as it is), I start with characters. They show up in my head for a variety of reasons and hang with me a while. My writing partner and I talk about them over chips and diet coke, sometimes steak and a margarita, and their stories just sort of unfold. And I’m not nearly as crazy as that sounds.

Is your writing style planned or freestyle?

A little of both. I always have an outline and major scenes planned before I sit down to write.  That doesn’t mean that I never change the plan.  Sometimes as I’m writing, something will occur to me and I’ll go off to explore the tangent.  I try to be aware when a plot line or scene isn’t working so that I don’t try to force something that feels wrong.  I often write the rough draft of  by hand.  I seem to be able to think better that way.  But after the first very rough draft everything is done on the computer.

If you use music while you’re writing, name your favorite types.

I do use music when I write but I listen to many different types, depending on the scene and what mood I want to impart.  Most of the time it’s a CD or my iPod, but I also use movies (on DVD) that I think have good soundtracks/scores.  My tastes range from the heavy metal band Disturbed to New Age Kitaro.

Can you share a tip about what you do when you get stuck in creating a story?

There isn’t just one thing I do when I get stuck. Taking a break from the story usually helps.  Sometimes I work on a different idea that I want to explore.  I listen to music or walk the dogs.  I have used tarot cards to explore ideas.

In what genres do you read?

The primary genres I read are Urban Fantasy and Fantasy in general, but I’m as eclectic in my reading tastes as I am in my musical tastes. I also read mysteries, humor, books on the writing craft and other non-fiction.

Are you a pet person and what do you have?

I currently have two rescued mix breeds, Chloe and Molly.  I love cats but have asthma and am severely allergic to them. I am very interested in Animal Welfare programs and support them whenever I can. I would love to be able to do bat rescue. Those little guys are so cute!

What do you hope readers gain from your stories?

I hope readers find a connection with the characters, and that their hearts are touched in some way. I also hope that they feel the triumph and vindication the characters feels, and cheer for them when they achieve the life of their dreams. But mostly, I hope they have a good time!

Sex. Rebellion. Rock and roll.

Living After Midnight, Book 1

Cheyenne is a half-human incubus whose star is on the rise in the Unakite City rock scene. His father, the leader of the supernatural races, would prefer he keep a “low profile”, but screw that. Cheyenne has as much music in his veins as royal incubi blood.

Alexander’s future is all set—finish law school, join the family firm, and marry someone who’d be good for business. Not that he has a say in any of it. He’s barely met the woman his father expects him to marry.

As Cheyenne’s musical career takes off, his carefully constructed life begins to unravel, exacerbated by an ex-lover who can’t let go, a crotchety barkeeper with a dirty mind and a pure heart, a drag queen who moonlights as a nanny, and Alexander—who’s not sure if he’s falling for the incubus or the rocker.

Cheyenne denies who he is, while Alexander hides what he wants. Together, they learn that getting what they truly want means being who they truly are.

EXCERPT

He spotted Alexander settling his tab and headed over to the bar. He hopped onto a bar stool next to him and winked at Eddie. “Give me whatever he’s drinking.”

Eddie swiped down the space in front of Cheyenne and set down a short glass. “Bourbon rocks, with a twist. The good stuff. Quite a change from your usual rotgut. It’s coming out of your check.”

“No. Let me.” Alexander took a bill out of his wallet and pushed it toward Eddie.

“Cheyenne, you gonna introduce me to this gorgeous side of beefcake?”

“Sure. First name Nunya. Last name Bidness.” He turned to Alexander. “This nosy old woman is my boss, Edwina, as in…” Cheyenne held his arms out and spun around gesturing towards the stage, the dance floor and the bar.

“Edwina is…Eddie?” Alexander wiped his hand on his pant leg before extending it. “Pleased to meet you, ma’am. Name’s Alexander. You have a great place here.”

Eddie took his hand with a firm grip and shook it. “Here, there, I get around.” She turned to Cheyenne and pointed her thumb in Alexander’s direction. “Now that’s what I’m talking about. You hear him, you tiny twit? He’s a gentleman. Be nice to this one.” Eddie leaned her impressive girth across the bar to scan the tall man from head to toe. “Remember, the store room is pretty small.”

“Oh, that’s subtle.” Cheyenne drummed his index fingers on the edge of the bar with a quick staccato beat. “No worries, old woman. He’s not my type.”

Eddie’s laughter echoed throughout the emptying bar. When it began to fade, she looked from Cheyenne to Alexander, shook her head and started laughing again. Cheyenne fed on her amusement and returned it to her. She giggled as she resumed cleaning the bar.

“What was that about?” Alexander’s confusion brought Cheyenne’s attention back to him.

“C.O.W.S.”

“Cows?”

Cheyenne didn’t have to look at Alexander to know the man was growing tense. He tasted it. “Crazy Old Woman Syndrome. Don’t worry about it.” Cheyenne doodled in the moisture that had pooled at the base of the glass of bourbon and then stuck his tongue into the dark amber liquid. “Ugh! Yuck!” He coughed. “You drink this stuff or strip furniture with it?”

Alexander shrugged. He swirled the ice in his glass and took a drink. “Take a little and give it a minute.”

“What the hell. I’ll try anything twice.” Cheyenne brought the glass to his lips, hesitating before taking a sip. He closed his eyes as the liquid’s warmth traveled down his throat and settled in his stomach. “I see what you mean.” He leaned around Alexander to check out the empty seat next to him. “So where’s the babe you were with earlier? Ditch you for a better prospect?”

“What?” Alexander shook the ice in his glass, and swirled it again.

Cheyenne found Alexander’s fidgeting interesting. “You were with a girl earlier. Where’d she go? She ditch you, or did you dump her?”

“Oh, that was a friend. Prudence. She didn’t… I mean, she wasn’t feeling well, so I took her home.” Alexander gulped his bourbon, grimaced and cleared his throat.

“Huh.” Judging from the delicious new jolt of cayenne he’d just ingested, he knew even talking about the woman was making Alexander agitated and angry. Why didn’t he admit that he’d been angry at her? Cheyenne filed the information away. He’d dig a little further into this curiosity some other time. “I don’t remember seeing her here before. Well, maybe you’ll bring her back sometime when she’s feeling better.”

The spicy taste of Alexander’s discomfort kicked up a notch. It was delicious. Cheyenne imagined making him furious would be mouth-watering.

“Listen, I better be going. Early morning and all that.” Alexander stood up and dropped a twenty into the tip jar. “See you around,” he said, walking away.

“Conflicted much?” Cheyenne retrieved the twenty from the jar and stuffed it into his pocket. Maybe big, sexually confused guys with money were his type after all.

Snippet from a 5-star review

“Once I opened House of the Rising Son, I fell in love with the characters, all of whom are strange in their own individual ways. They are also witty and funny and appealing. Oh, and incidentally, Incubi are also very sexy…”

I’m a transactional attorney by background, but am officially inactive in my legal career.  I’ve always written but started writing fiction seriously while practicing law, and am now a full-time novelist.

What’s the logline that describes your writing?

It’s not exactly a logline, but my favorite quote is “Reality is for those who lack imagination.”
What are your hobbies away from the computer?

You mean there is life away from the computer?  Oh, yes, how could I forget?  My dogs tend to take up any time I’m not on the computer and also interrupt me a lot while I’m there.

Have you traveled to any locations that appear in your books?

My two earlier mystery series both took place in LA’s San Fernando Valley, where I live.  Alpha Force, the covert military unit in my Harlequin Nocturnes, is headquartered on Maryland’s Eastern Shore, and I’ve been there, as well as to some of the places where the stories occur, such as western Canada.  I’ve had some books take place in Alaska and England, and I’ve visited there.  My two newest mystery series take place in fictional Southern California towns which I would love to visit, especially Destiny, California, which is all about superstitions.

Do you write in a genre other than the one of this release?

Yes.  CANADIAN WOLF is the seventh in my Alpha Force miniseries for Harlequin Nocturne, a paranormal romance, and it is a September 2015 release.  KNOCK ON WOOD, the second Superstition Mystery, will be published in October 2015.  I additionally write the Barkery & Biscuits Mysteries as well as another miniseries for Harlequin Romantic Suspense.  Did you add them up?  I’m now writing four series concurrently!

Are you a pet person? If so, what do you have?

Absolutely!  I’m all about pets.  All of my cozy mystery series have dogs in them as well as, sometimes, other pets.  I even write about canines and other animals in my romances since I write the Alpha Force miniseries for Harlequin’s paranormal Nocturne series, all about a covert military unit of shapeshifters!

I’m owned by Cavalier King Charles Spaniels, who have me a lot better trained than I’ve trained them.

What do you hope readers gain from your stories?

I hope my readers enjoy what I write–and perhaps learn a little, too.   Not that I can tell them a whole lot about shapeshifters–only those in the world I’ve created.  I’ve had a lot of fun researching superstitions for my Superstition Mysteries, though, and hope those who read them find new ways of increasing their good luck!

Excerpt:

He bent toward her, wrapped one arm around her waist, the other around her back, then buried his face in the crook of her neck and inhaled.

Relishing the feel of her body melded against his, he forgot the worries consuming him. She soothed his ache with a mere touch, with a mere embrace.

Exactly what he’d wanted, exactly what he needed.

She then pressed her full lips against his cheek, kissing him lightly.

An innocent kiss. There was no passion behind it, but an unconscious consuming need, one he’d never felt, swelled inside him—desire. It was exciting, overwhelming and terrifying, blocking logic and reason.

All he wanted now was a single kiss. All he could think about was how her soft lips would feel pressed against his.

Marvelous, he concluded.

It was absurd to want what he did and feel what he felt, for he was an angel. Carnal desires even as insignificant as kisses were for others, for all others except his breed, and yet he felt it so deeply it seared him.

The desire that gripped him didn’t release him even after she unhooked her arms from around his neck, and the warmth of her body melted away.

There he stood, immobile, battling the desire she’d sparked. He didn’t want to leave yet knew he had to before he’d acted out his longing.

He willed his body to move. Finally, he placed one foot behind the other, stepped back and strode away praying the yearning he had no right to feel for a woman who would never be his would soon subside.

EXCERPT

“Good morning,” came a quiet rumble behind her.

Without thinking, she turned and punched, dropping her coffee cup in the process, the hot liquid spilling everywhere. She saw the man was blond and powerful but beyond those attributes she couldn’t tell because he held his hand to his face.

“What the hell?” His question came out on a low growl.

“Who are you?” Her tone harsh and edgy.

“Maybe I’m the one who should be asking the questions.” He reached out, grabbed her by the upper arms and slammed her on the table giving her little time to respond. Taking a good whiff, his smile was almost feral.

Cordelia struggled against his grip. “Let me go.”

“Not until you tell me who you are.”

He pressed the full length of his body against her. And what a form it was if what was pressed against her stomach held true. Still, she heaved in frustration as her instinct to get away kicked in. Once she was near him, he smelled more like a spring meadow and the Elites than the Betas. She didn’t care his sexy cock grew by the second. She didn’t care he took his time trying to analyze her smell. Suddenly she was all wet and hot and bothered. All she cared about was this crazy man caught her off guard, threw her on the table and tried to immobilize her. The mere action pissed her off. She lifted her leg hard and chuckled inside when he fell away. Men always left something exposed.

“You fight dirty.” He bent over, one hand to his crotch and the other on his knee breathing deeply.

His voice was a rich, deep timber like honey when the nights started to get cold in the autumn. There would be no way she’d let her guard down with this man if his voice did things to her insides that made her feel like a schoolgirl.

“I do what I have to do.” Her voice was a breathless whisper.

“And you had to hit me?” Slowly, he rose to his full height, towering over her. “I don’t know what you’re doing here but I’m beginning to wonder if you are even supposed to be here.”

His comment pissed her off even more. She drew back her hand and punched him in the face again. “I’ll show you who’s supposed to be here.”

“What the hell did I ever do to you?” The man stood there, a stunned expression on his face.

“Come on. You don’t like to fight women?” His eyes grew wider at her comment.

“You want to fight me?” His question held a hint of surprise and lots of disbelief. “Woman, you don’t know what you’re asking for.” He took a step nearer.

She broadened her stance and prepared for the worst. He outweighed her by probably eighty pounds and was a full head taller than her. His body was lean with lots of muscle. She’d barely gotten rid of the baby fat and the baby had been born four years ago. Still, this was simply going to be a battle of wits at least in her mind. She saw him slowly raise his hand and splay his palm toward her. Suddenly on her ass, a thought flashed through her mind. Damn, he’s a psychic.

“Now who’s not playing fair?” She growled at him. This was going to be harder than planned. She reached up to the table and pulled herself up, her hand grazed the place settings just waiting for guests.
