Hearts Of Valor Authors Share Insights

The authors of Hearts Of Valor were asked: What are your “must haves” when you start a new story? Here are their varied and interesting answers.

London Saint James:

My laptop. HUGE must. And Coca Cola.

T.E. Hodden:

Coffee and a good idea. Anything else can be worked out as you go along.

S.L. Hughson:

I must have passion for a motivated protagonist whose problem is relatable to the target audience. Depending on the length of the story, having the major story turning points outlined is also essential.

Jean Young:

Emotion and mood. I’ve never written any story when I wasn’t emotionally involved. And I’ve used my favorite music to put myself in the right mood.

Philip Lisagor:

I start with place and themes. Without these I find it hard to be grounded in the story and characters as they develop.

Before I even start a story, I need a basic outline and character interviews. I’m a seriously planner, and without those two, I flounder and end up editing and rewriting way more than necessary.

Terri Rochenski:

An outline and character portraits / interviews. Can’t write a story without either!

Captain Quinn Alstrom of the U.S. Coast Guard was eager to start his newest post; however the excitement had nothing to do with the beautiful surroundings of Key West, and everything to do with his best friend’s wife.

Will Quinn’s surprise arrival in Veronica’s life re-spark the fire in the vivacious woman he remembered? Or, will the memory of her fallen husband stop the two of them from finding happiness?

A Manly Man Jean Young

But what she learned while with her hero POW, turns the sweet girl into a fearsome warrior. One determined to save the soldier with a noble heart.
